A Toronto police officer who helped stage a gunpoint takedown of suspects in the Jane Creba case has been charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of a 26-year-old Etobicoke man.Constable David Cavanagh was arrested Wednesday after a probe by Ontario’s police watchdog found “reasonable grounds” to believe he committed a criminal offence in the death of Eric Osawe two months ago.Mr. Osawe, a man with a troubled past but who friends say was starting to turn his life around, was gunned down after police executed a search warrant at his Dunbloor Road apartment on Sept. 29.

The Special Investigations Unit would not provide further details, but cited an “interaction” between police and the 26-year-old, who sustained a fatal gunshot wound. His younger brother, Ebony Osawe, was arrested at the scene and charged with a variety of firearms offences.
